Young Eagles

A first flight, free, for young people aged 8 to 17

Young Eagles gives young people the chance to go flying in a small airplane with a volunteer pilot, see the controls up close and find out whether aviation might be for them.

What happens on the day

  1. Check inA parent or legal guardian signs and dates EAA's Young Eagles registration and waiver form, both sides, at the registration table. Please arrive a little early.
  2. Ground briefingThe pilot walks your young flyer around the airplane and explains what they will see and do.
  3. The flightUsually 15 to 20 minutes over the local area. Weather decides; safety always comes first.
  4. What nextEvery young flyer leaves with ideas for next steps, from online ground school to local youth programs.
  • It is freePilots and volunteers give their time and aircraft at no cost to families.
  • Experienced volunteersFlights are flown by certificated pilots who volunteer with the chapter.
